This project is the work of ORW, Landscape Architects and Planners in White River Junction, Vermont. While there from 2008-2011, I had the opportunity to project manage the site development team and help design the features and components shown, including many of the smaller site details, shade structures, and paving systems. Working with the team at ORW, including principles Bob White and Carolyn Radisch, and office staff Hillary Gregory and Claire Tebbs, we developed a strong site planning and landscape concept for the redevelopment of Hampton Beach State Park. Our concept consisted of using natural, local materials such as granite, locust wood, and exposed aggregate paving from local quarries in NH. Our goal was to provide a natural setting and buffer the beach visitors from the hot sun and heavy traffic with cool shade structures, planting areas with native beach grasses propagated specifically for the site. We wanted to provide a colorful and fun experience for the visitors as well as create a new identity for the State Park. Graphic designer, Chuck Gibson developed the successful concept for the Sunfish- 11 in all that meander up Ocean Blvd. Our team created structural details and managed their installation and fabrication by Jutras Signage Fabricators.
